The DAO Science Archive (DAOSA)

This page presents a World-Wide-Web link into the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory's Science Archive (DAOSA), operated by the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC). The DAOSA consists of observations obtained with the DAO's 1.8-m Plaskett telescope as well as the 1.2-m telescope and McKellar spectrograph. It allows searches by important criteria such as object name, date, and wavelength and presents the results of the search in a tabular format. The CADC's Data Retrieval facility allows archive users to download archival data directly to their own computers.

The current release of the DAOSA is version 1.0. See the What's New? link in the "Help" menu for a summary of recent additions to the archive.

Proprietary data can also be retrieved, but only by the Principal Investigator (PI) of the science program in question and any colleagues the PI has granted access to that program's data. These users must also register with the CADC in order to enable authorization tests to be made before such proprietary data is accessed. The proprietary period for DAO pixel data is 12 months from the time of the observation. Metadata associated with the pixel data (i.e. the FITS header) is public immediately.

To perform a search for the DAO Science Archive, simply select one of the data sources to query in the menu at the top. In most cases you will want to start with a search of the DAO Science Archive, but an archive of Skycam movies and DAO environmental data is also available for completeness.

The "Help" menu will get you started if you're confused by the query form. Select Form Help for more detailed instructions on making efficient use of the query form.

DAO telescope users are requested to acknowledge the use of the DAO facilities in their publications. The preferred form is a footnote to the author's byline, such as:

*Based on observations obtained at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics, National Research Council of Canada.

If you have used CADC facilities for your research, please also include the following acknowledgment in any publications:
